Recently, in order to increase students' close contact and understanding of the "desert soil" ecological restoration technology originally created by the mechanical sand control team of Chongqing Jiaotong University, promote the combination of "ideological and political small class" and "social big class" to educate people cooperatively, strengthen scientific research and practical teaching, and cultivate students' all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor, 30 students in this class were divided into two groups, from August 16 to August 22 and August 26, 2023 respectively. During the preparation and development of the activity, the relevant departments of the school and the Eco-environment Research Center/Institute of Future Technology of Ecological Mechanics always attached great importance to it and carefully organized it, and planned and arranged rich and substantial practical links, so that all the students gained a lot.

Scientific experiment
Four teachers, Zhou Lilei, Fang Yong, Zhao Ruiyi and Li Jianhong, led the students to carry out scientific experiments such as biodiversity survey, soil compactness measurement, plant growth measurement, biomass survey, soil organic carbon measurement/isotope measurement, hydrological moisture meter installation and detection. After a few days of on-site practical study, the students soon became familiar with the experimental operation methods such as soil sampling, soil compactness measurement, plant biomass observation, and microbial sample collection and preservation, and all of them became small experts in base experiments.
The students were deeply impressed by the rigorous scientific attitude and the pursuit of Excellence in scientific research. Inspired by the instructor's example, the students didn't have the coquetry, rushed to each other, sweated under the scorching sun and didn't say anything, and they couldn't hang on to the line of fire with minor injuries, so that the instructors could see their due responsibilities after zero zero zero.

During the activity, when the sunflower is in full bloom, thousands of bees are buzzing in the base and are diligently pollinating the sunflower. After a short study and training, the students also joined the labor force of bees spreading pollen to help the sunflower harvest in autumn. "The melon seeds that the new students eat may be the powder we gave them," the students joked while pollinating. Instead of complaining about the hard work in the hot sun, everyone was full of energy and completed the pollination of 90 acres of sunflower in one afternoon.

In the sharing, exchange and summary after the research activities, the students have expressed their gains during the practice. "I deeply feel the power of technology and innovation. Perhaps this is the confidence of our' man can conquer nature'!" Li Mingyang, an experimental class, shared his feelings. "My feeling is that we must be serious and careful when doing experiments." Youth is the hope and the future. During the trip to Wulanbuhe Desert in Inner Mongolia, this group of teenagers and twenties showed great vitality in the desert. They bathed in the morning sun, bathed in the sunset glow, went down to the sand and crossed the thorns, and walked through the warm and splendid sunflower fields. This group of educated men who had been pampered and raised at home suddenly lost their femininity, digging, pollinating, sampling, and doing what they said. When asked about their feelings, the students' answers were "very worthwhile". A real experience is better than a thousand times on paper. "It's too shallow to talk on paper, and you never know that you have to do it." The practice of this research activity made the students realize the profound truth of unity of knowing and doing, and determined to learn by doing, constantly improve their quality and ability, and strive to grow into a new person of the times who is responsible for national rejuvenation.
