An exchange meeting was held in the Mingde Building International Conference Room on August 19, when Professor Qian Xuhong, President of East China Normal University(ECNU), and Zeng Heping, Visiting Professor of ECNU and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Precision Spectroscopy (SKLPS), visited Chongqing Jiaotong University(CQJTU) for guidance and exchange. Professor Yi Zhijian, Director of the Engineering Research Center of Eco-Mechanical Desertification Control and Ecosystem Carbon Sink of CQJTU, Professor Ma Yinhua, Deputy Director of the Ecological Environment Research Center, and members of the team of “Desert Soilization” technology joined the meeting.

At the meeting, after listening to Professor Yi Zhijian’s explanation of the principle, characteristics, advantages, application, and industrialization of the “Desert Soilization” technology, Professor Qian asked about the research and development and related details of the technology, highlighted the value and significance of the technology for ecological restoration, and fully affirmed the originality and leadership of it. He also gives valuable guidance and suggestions for the further improvement of high-level achievements and the new research directions.

Professor Qian Xuhong also combined his own experience in the innovation and education of scientific research and conducted in-depth exchanges on new concepts and practices such as interdisciplinary innovation and talent development. He emphasized that “In this ever-evolving era, an unwillingness to push beyond limitations will not suffice. We must strive to surpass our boundaries. Rather than prioritizing the comfort of existing beliefs over the potential for learning and growth, we should cultivate greater open-mindedness and promote more productive research. By adhering to the principle of ‘greatest rigor with maximum flexibility,’ we can nurture top-tier innovative talent and drive scientific research forward”. Through a vivid and insightful presentation, Professor Qian provided attendees with a profound course on creative thinking, illustrating his successful case studies and achievements in depth.

Attendees from the two universities discussed several cooperation plans in the fields of agriculture, ecology, and “dual carbon goals”, reaching a preliminary cooperation intention.
